Regular exercise and a low-calorie diet are typically used to flatten the stomach. Exercise helps increase your metabolism, which causes your body to burn more calories. When you combine exercise with a low-calorie diet, your body is forced to use fat storage to make up the calorie difference. Once you begin to burn fat around your body, including your belly, you can get a flat stomach. However, you can also improve fat-burning by drinking water. Water can increase your metabolism and reduce your daily caloric intake.
Step 1
Drink ice water to boost your metabolism. Your body needs to warm the cold water which will will burn energy and cause an increase in your metabolism. Dr. Mehmet Oz, the host of the Dr. Oz Show, says you can increase your metabolic rate by 70 calories per day by drinking eight cups of ice water.

Step 2
Cut hundreds of calories by drinking water instead of high-sugar and high-calorie drinks, such as juice and regular soda. Every two cups of juice you replace with water will help you avoid more than 200 calories every day.
Step 3
Consume a pint of water just before each meal. Water will fill up your stomach and reduce the amount of food you can consume, which will cut your daily calorie intake.
Step 4
Make a cup of tea using oolong or green tea and water. The catechins in oolong and green tea increase your metabolism and help reduce body fat, according to studies published in "Obesity" and "Chinese Journal of Integrative Medicine." When you drink these teas regularly, you can improve your weight loss and flatten your stomach. Further improve the calorie-burning effect by making ice tea. Use calorie-free sweetener instead of sugar to cut down calories.

Tip
Although water can increase your metabolism and improve your weight loss, it is not a miracle potion. You need to eat a low-calorie diet to make your body burn fat for energy. When you combine water with a healthy diet and regular exercise, you can flatten your stomach and feel healthier.
Warning
Although rare, consuming too much water can lead to a condition called hyponatremia. This can occur when your kidneys are unable to excrete the excess water you drink and in effect, the electrolyte content of your blood gets diluted.
