Proctor Silex rice cookers take the guess work out of cooking rice. You don't have to worry about maintaining the correct temperature or cook times because the machine does it automatically. Proctor Silex has two models of rice cooker: the 10-cup 34733Y and the 8-cup 34734Y. Save for the difference in size, both models function similarly. You can purchase Proctor Silex rice cookers online or from brick-and-mortar retailers.

Step 1

Rinse out the inner pot of the rice cooker. Put the inner pot inside the base of the rice cooker.

Step 2

Add the desired amount of rice to the cooker. For example, you would use 2 cups of rice for eight to 10 servings.

Step 3

Add twice the amount of water as the amount of rice. For example, use 4 cups of water for 2 cups of rice. For drier rice, use less water, such as 3 cups. For wetter rice, use more water, such as 4 ½ cups. Do not fill the pot beyond the fill line.

Step 4

Add 1 tsp. salt to the water, if desired. Cover the pot.

Step 5

Plug in the rice cooker – the "Warm" light will come on automatically. Depress the button and the "Cook" light will come on.

Step 6

Let the rice cook until the switch flips, the "Cook" light goes off and the "Warm" light comes on. You may hear a "thunk" as the switch flips from "Cook" to "Warm."

Tip

The machine uses steam, from the water, to cook the rice. Do not remove the cover while the rice is cooking.
