The NordicTrack CX 990 is a discontinued elliptical model. It originally was introduced in 2003. The CX 990 is designed for in-home use only. It is significantly heavier than newer NordicTrack elliptical machines. Oddly, the CX 990 also has a lower maximum user capacity. Because of the weight of the CX 990, you may want to consider a different elliptical if you are using it upstairs.

In January 2011, the elliptical machines featured on the NordicTrack website weigh between 150 and 250 lbs. The E7.1 a rear drive elliptical, priced at $749, weighs 225 lbs. User Capacity
The CX 990 has a maximum user capacity of 250 lbs. This is significantly less than the machine's actual weight of 325 lbs. Newer NordicTrack machines weigh less and have higher maximum weight limits. The E7.1 can handle up to 300 lbs and the Audiostrider 990 can handle up to 325 lbs. However, the website Fitness Equipment Reviews cautions that NordicTrack and other manufacturers overstate the user weight limits. For the Audiostrider 990, the website recommends a weight limit of 240 lbs.
