"When you're choosing a DVD, it's really important to do a little bit of research on the creator of the DVD to make sure that they're certified and make sure that they have some credentialed, legitimate education," Perkins says.

This workout video is more than an hour long and combines traditional exercise with kickboxing-style moves for some fun variety. Although equipment is optional, this program does allow you to incorporate resistance equipment (like dumbbells and ankle weights), which is ideal, according to Perkins.
In order to build muscle, you need some sort of resistance, she says. So, if a bigger butt is the goal, look for videos that involve weights in some shape or form.

4 Factors to Consider Before You Buy a Butt Workout DVD
1. Is It Created By a Certified Expert?
You wouldn't hire a personal trainer with no credentials, right? Similarly, you want to find a DVD program that's created by an expert you can trust, Perkins says.
"These days, there are a lot of personalities and voices in the fitness industry that aren't really credentialed," she says.
Before you buy a program or DVD, do a little research on the creator to verify that they're a certified personal trainer with a legitimate organization, like the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). Generally, a little Google searching can get you the answer you're looking for.

2. Does It Align With Your Personal Fitness Goals?
Your current glute goals dictate the best workout program for your body, according to Perkins. For instance, those who want to build their glute muscles need a video that incorporates some sort of resistance element, whether that's dumbbells, ankle weights or resistance bands.
On the other hand, those who want to just generally activate or tone their glute muscles can get away with videos that use body weight.
3. Is There Any Overly-Promising Marketing?
Don't fall for exaggerated marketing, Perkins advises. Generally, if a video promises something that sounds too good to be true (like re-building your body in a matter of days), it probably doesn't have the most sound programming.
Instead, look for DVDs that describe the type of exercises or programs you can expect. Programs created by certified experts with some sort of progressive challenge (adding weights over time, for example) are the most reliable.

When in doubt, read the reviews! Take a peek through the Amazon reviews or look through Google to get an idea of how others have responded to the program.
