Lubricating your treadmill belt every six months or 150 miles can keep vital treadmill parts -- including the deck, belt, motor and motor controller -- from prematurely wearing out. It can also help your treadmill run more quietly and reduce friction between the belt and the treadmill deck. Lubricating your treadmill takes just minutes to complete and is relatively inexpensive.
Step 1
Turn your treadmill off and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. Use a screwdriver to loosen the screws on each side of the machine.

Step 2
Gently lift each side of the treadmill belt so you can see the treadmill deck's surface and you can peek through to the other side easily.
Step 3
Spray or squirt lubricant along the sides of the treadmill deck, taking care not to drip any on the floor. Wipe up any excess lubricant with a rag. For best results, apply rubbing alcohol to your cleaning rag or sponge. This will more effectively absorb any excess lubricant.
Step 4
Lower the treadmill belt and re-tighten the treadmill screws. Make sure they are secure.
Step 5
Plug the treadmill back in and turn it on. Walk on your treadmill at a speed of 1 mph for up to five minutes. This will ensure the lubricant spreads evenly across the deck surface and reaches its center.
Things You'll Need
Silicone spray, oil or gel
Screwdriver
Rag or sponge
Rubbing alcohol (optional)
Warning
Avoid getting lubricant on the top of the treadmill. This can make the belt slippery and can be hazardous when running at high speeds.
